Christine's Success Story

Meet Christine

christine-beforeAs many women can relate, body image, weight gain and loss has been a struggle for Christine.  She spent much of her adolescence and early adulthood being less than healthy in her relationship with her body, the food she ate, and exercise.   Before she made the commitment to a changing her lifestyle and subsequently her relationship with food, exercise, and most importantly herself, Christine stated:

“I had resolved to the idea that I'd always be ‘curvy and a bit overweight’,

my body wasn't capable of sculpting and toning and that I’d never really

love the body I was given,”

It was in January of 2010, Christine decided to commit to making a lifestyle change stating her goal was “to focus on becoming healthier - physically, emotionally and spiritually.”  Christine dedicates her life to serving others by helping them overcome emotional and behavioral challenges.  Part of her working to empower others is teaching people forgiveness…forgiveness of themselves as well as forgiveness of others.  It was time for Christine to learn what she had worked so hard to empower others to do.  She decided that if she was to be able to fully help others, she also had to do something for herself.  It was then that Christine decided it was time to give herself permission to “focus on ME.”

Focus on Me

The first step for making a change for Christine was to educate herself on nutrition and how to sustain a healthy weight.  Christine joined a weight loss program.  She learned the value of portion control and the importance of reading nutritional labels. Christine began to form a different relationship with food and lost 30 pounds.  However, she didn’t feel her body looking or feeling differently.  After about 5 months Christine felt she hit a standstill.  She craved something more than just focusing on what she was eating, watching calories, etc.  She began to realize that even though she lost weight, “My body wasn’t exactly snapping back to teenage form.”  More importantly Christine advised, “My mind was still struggling with self-accepting, with loving myself and my body, with feeling confident in who I was and what I looked like to the world.”

Christine had lost weight before and was at her lowest weight since high school, but she did not feel content with where she was at.  She felt like she needed something more.  She had found success with making small changes in her nutrition but knew she wanted to make an even bigger commitment to herself.  Christine made a choice that her health and overall well being was going to be a priority.

In July of 2010, Christine joined JCBC Fitness, even though the idea of a “formal” workout “was somewhat nauseating”.  Her goal was “To commit to taking time to work on myself physically and mentally so that I could be my best not only for myself but for my loved ones, my friends, my colleagues and those I interact with in the world.” It was a time in Christine’s life where she was ready to continue her commitment to herself, grow her relationship with food as fuel, and change the way she viewed exercise.

Beginning at JCBC Fitness

The decision to join an organized fitness program was not an easy one for Christine.  “I should start by saying that I literally contemplated joining JCBC for 5 months. I watched one of my colleagues who had been involved with JCBC for almost a year and the physical and emotional changes we all saw in her were unreal, so inspirational.”

Christine had several thoughts and emotions that stood out after her first session at JCBC Fitness:

  • christine-after “It was almost like having a personal trainer. I got so much 1:1 attention to ensure that I was feeling safe and comfortable with the moves, etc.”
  • “This is so much better than I thought it would be. I was so nervous that I’d be busy comparing myself to the other women in class and feeling intimidated by how “fit” or in shape the rest of the women were. I was actually shocked at how comfortable and welcomed I felt. Nobody was judging me and I actually didn’t judge myself while in class either…Quite an accomplishment!”
  • “I felt like a total and complete rock star after the first class. I was like “you did it!” There were a few moments in that first class where I wasn’t sure I was going to make it as it had been YEARS since I really worked out but I did it and I was just so proud of myself. I literally went home after that first class and walked around the house flexing my biceps talking about “the gun show”. I was incredibly proud of myself.”

Christine felt so good about herself and her accomplishments at JCBC Fitness that she could not wait to return. “I felt so amazing and so empowered after that first class that I couldn’t allow myself to make up another excuse in life that ultimately would get in the way of what I wanted to achieve for myself, my future and my family.”

Christine’s Insight to others:

“You can do it and more importantly, YOU ARE WORTH IT! The hardest part is coming for that first class and once you do, you’ll begin to realize you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.”

“I've been attending JCBC boot camp for approximately 5 ½ months. It's been an incredible experience. I’ve lost inches all over and my “gun show” has become even more impressive with each month that goes by because I continue to stay committed to my overall health. The workouts have had positive effects not only on my physical health but my spiritual and emotional health as well. JCBC is the ONLY thing that has worked for me.”

“…I appreciate the individualized attention, education and training I receive from our instructor. It's a unique environment that I'm not sure you could find anywhere else. Everyone works at their own pace and fitness level so the challenge in turn becomes competitive within yourself. Each class I try to push myself harder and take it to the next level. I'm not worried about what the gal next to me is doing or if I am "beating" other people in class. I'm competing with me each and every time and the rewards have been incredible. Not only have I lost inches but more importantly, I've re-established a mutual respect for my body. My self-esteem is so much greater than I ever thought possible."

Take that first step by committing to yourself like Christine did and give JCBC Fitness a try!
